Zimmerman, Jan Wendel Gerstenhauer (1816-1887)

Wedding celebrations in West-Friesland, 1855

When painting the background, Gerstenhauer Zimmerman was inspired by the prevailing preference for Old-Dutch architecture. Due to its detailed presentation of the costumes and marriage customs, this painting provides much information on West-Frisian marriages around the middle of the 19th century.
