Against the light / Anu Tuominen
The Finnish artist Anu Tuominen created the Against the light installation in this building in 2008. This work presented the simplicity of everyday life in a rather melancholy way.
Tuominen gathered countless items from flea-markets and combined these with objects from the collection of the Zuiderzee Museum that have passed the stage of being used as everyday utensils. She placed the objects in a row, combined them, compared form and colour and categorized them. In this way, a new significance was generated, a new collection, a poetic image in the language of Anu Tuominen.
Tuominen’s work is an endless series of parallels, metaphors, analogies and hierarchies. She converts the public to the personal, and vice versa. Tuominen created the installation to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Zuiderzee Museum.
