viktor & rolf purchased

The Zuiderzee Museum has added to its collection seven items of couture by the Dutch designer duo Viktor & Rolf. These items will be on display in the Museum from 22 March 2009, during the exhibition Gone with the Wind.

On 27 February 2007, during the Paris Fashion Week, the fashion design duo Viktor & Rolf showed their new winter collection for 2007/2008. The collection was inspired by Dutch traditional costume: fisherman’s trousers, pleated skirts, and clogs with high heels. In view of the fact that the designs harmonize well with Zuiderzee Museum’s new collection policy, the decision was taken to purchase a number of items. After consultations with Viktor & Rolf, seven sets were acquired. Each set consists of the design and the accessories, as well as design sketches, examples of fabric, and the corresponding documentation material.

New acquisition policy
These acquisitions are in accordance with the new collection policy of the Zuiderzee Museum. Whereas in previous years the focus primarily lay on the period prior to the closure of the Zuiderzee, the Museum currently devotes its attention to the relationship between the past and the present. By expanding and displaying the collection in relation to the present and to possible future developments, the Zuiderzee Museum attempts to allocate the collection greater social relevance.
