FAQ

Is the museum accessible for wheelchair users?
Wheelchair users have been considered wherever possible during the design of the indoor Museum and the exhibition areas. A visit to this building does not usually result in any problems. The Outdoor Museum is generally also accessible for wheelchair users. However, the streets, alleys and buildings have been built and designed in an authentic manner. This has resulted in limited space in some areas, or perhaps a path might have quite a steep incline. This can be a difficult obstacle for a wheelchair.

People assisting disabled people who cannot visit the museum independently will enjoy free entry.

At the cashpoint you can obtain a map showing a wheelchair-friendly route through the Outdoor Museum.

Does the Museum provide wheelchairs?
Yes, a limited number of wheelchairs is available for the use of visitors. You can find them in the entrance pavilion and by the city entrance. Please contact the cashier.

Does the Museum have disabled parking spaces?
There are spaces for people with a disabled parking badge next to the Museum. They are located at the entrance to the Museum at the Wierdijk. The following route description will take you to the Museum building: Wierdijk 12-22, 1601 LA Enkhuizen. From the Enkhuizen exit off the A7. Turn right at the end of the slip road: N302. Continue up to the built up area in Enkhuizen. Go straight on at the traffic lights: LINDENLAAN (keep the BP petrol station on your left), which turns into DREEF. Turn right at the t-junction: NOORDERWEG. Onto SIJBRANDSPLEIN at the end and keep to your left: VISSERSDIJK. Turn right into the seventh street: VAN LINSCHOTENSTRAAT. Follow this road for approximately 400 meters. You will find the Zuiderzee Museum and the disabled parking spaces on your right hand side.

If I want to visit the Zuiderzee Museum in the summer (April - October), where is the best place to park my car?
The ANWB signs point the way to the entrance pavilion of the museum in Enkhuizen. There is plenty of parking space available at a small charge. Your visit to the museum begins when you board the ferry to the outdoor museum. You can reach the indoor museum on foot from the outdoor museum.

If I want to visit the indoor section of the Zuiderzee Museum in the winter (November - March), where is the best place to park my car?
There is plenty of parking space available at Enkhuizen railway station (Stationsplein). From here, you can walk to the indoor museum within ten minutes. Follow the signs for pedestrians (‘voetgangers’) and you will be treated to a pleasant walk through Enkhuizen.

Where leaves the ferry to the Outdoor Museum in the city center?
The ferry leaves from the jetty behind the VVV office (opposite Enkhuizen’s NS Station) on a regular basis from April up to October.

Can I also park on the Wierdijk in Enkhuizen?
The parking facilities on the Wierdijk are not ideal. Most of the parking bays are exclusively for people with parking permits. In addition, the city centre is difficult to reach by car.

Can I take my own boat to the Outdoor Museum?
No, you can’t moor up at the Outdoor Museum in your own boat. You can look for a place to moor at the nearby Compagniehaven (Harbour) or Enkhuizen’s communal harbour. Both harbours have spaces for visitors. The Compagniehaven is located across from the Zuiderzee Museum’s entrance.
